LANGUAGES OF CARE

london college of fashion gallery, 2024

Defined simply, this project is an ongoing conversation between three practitioners: Dr. Leah Gouget-Levy, Dr. Ben Whyman and myself. In 2022 we were commissioned to hold a series of conversations exploring how language and grammar employed in archival records shape our experience of the objects described, questioning what are the different voices that emerge.

In 2024 this conversation crystallised in this exhibition, showcased in London College of Fashion’s gallery space. This exhibition explored the concepts of voices and layers, working with fragmented dress pattern shapes I translated key phrases from both the archival records and our conversations to form a layered installation, with curatorial assistance from Ben. Accompanying this was an audio piece, transcribing Leah’s experimental text.

The project is ongoing and our conversation continues…
