HENWOOD ENGINEERING
Since 2016, my skills of signwriting and lining have been engaged by Henwood Engineering, a one-stop shop for steam engine restoration in Cornwall, UK. Working as part of the close knit team, my traditional skills have contributed to the restoration of many steam engines based locally, nationally and internationally - in New Zealand.

background & research
Sensitive to the heritage of the steam engine industry, this work is undertaken following a period of research - specifically examining build sheets of the original manufacturers of steam engines, to ensure an authenticity to the line widths, letterforms and colours used.
the process
Documented here are snapshots of the various steam engines my traditional skills have played a part in restoring, as one of the team at Henwood Engineering.
Notably my skills in lining - by hand, using no tape - are employed. This work is occasionally complimented by signwriting: for lettering on the engine’s canopy and on coats of arms.
